Do YOU even know how to switch weapons? Whatever your trouble, never fear... this guide has everything you need to know. Why buy a book when you can get the same information for free?
Quake 3: Arena was released in December of 1999 and, like most of id's games, it broke a lot of rules. Most importantly, it lacked a very important part of the Quake series (and all other games, for that matter): a single player mode. Despite this downfall the game remains very popular, partly because of its revolutionary 3D engine. id Software continues to license Quake 3's engine to various developers. It has been used in many popular titles such as Raven's Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and Soldier of Fortune II.
Because Quake 3 is strictly multiplayer, it does a better job of supporting multiplayer than previous games in the Quake series. The HUD designs, weapons, items, maps, and all other aspects of the game reflect a multiplayer approach rather than a mating of single player with online play. Although some may argue that the single player mode assists the multiplayer mode by giving the game more character, no one can say that it doesn't hinder it as well.
It should be noted that this guide only covers the latest retail release of Quake 3, and not Team Arena.
