Mapper's Guide

introduction | entities | environment | gameplay | performance | publishing

Entities, as was said before, are the components of the map that control the dynamic functions of the game. Ammo, weapons, and items are entities, as well as models, lights, sound sources, teleporters, and just about anything else that isn't a static brush.

Both Q3Radiant and GTKRadiant offer extensive interactive lists of all of Quake 3's entities, descriptions of what they do, and lists of all keys for each entity. For this reason, this guide does not include the entity list seen in both the Quake 1 and Quake 2 mapper's guides. In fact, this guide doesn't cover much in the way of entites, mostly because a very extensive manual on entities is available as an appendix of the Q3Radiant editor manual, written by Paul Jaquays of id Software. That manual is available here.
