Quake 2 supplies its players with a wide variety of - you guessed it - single-player oriented items. Unfortunately, in the deathmatch department, it falls a little short. It does feature more items than Quake 1, however, so it's definitely an improvement.

Bandoleer This lets you carry more of every kind of ammo except rockets and grenades.
Ammo Pack This allows you to carry more of every kind of ammo.
Stimpack This little puppy gives you a small boost of health. These may be used for health over 100.
Adrenaline Gives you your full health back and adds one to your normal maximum health (when you start, it's 100).
Mega Health Adds 100 to whatever health you have. There is no maximum in Quake 2, so you can have up to 999 health. After that it kind of goes back around. It's not going to happen in any of id's levels, but you could make your own... just wait until that godlike player hits a stimpack and brings himself from 999 back down to 1. See ya.

Armor Shard Gives you a few armor points. They are good for single player, but that's about it.
Jacket Armor This won't protect you a whole lot, but it's somewhat useful.
Body Armor This is pretty darn good, though not the best.
Combat Armor This will protect you the most aside from the shield belt.
Energy Armor This completely protects you from every weapon in the game as long as it has cells to power itself with. The key part is the cells... your cells are important because they power the hyper blaster and the BFG, which are both very powerful weapons. You can toggle this armor with the P key by default, which you should do if your health is very high.
Underwater Breather It lets you breath, but doesn't protect you from the various goops (like slime and lava) that make the Strogg world so much fun. It lasts about 30 seconds. Just another cheap military device to give you a false sense of security.
Enviro-Suit This guy protects you from environmental hazards, believe it or not.
Silencer Makes you inaudible to all your friends. You can still be seen, which makes this a lot less cool than the Ring of Shadows, but it is still useful. Just make sure you don't do anything stupid, like running up to someone's face and dancing around saying "Haw haw haw, you can't hear me!".
Quad Like the name suggests, it makes you deal four times the damage. Very useful. Just don't fire explosive things into walls. Unless, of course, you want to entertain your friends. In that case, have at it. SPLAT. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Invulnerability Yummy. It's not as cool looking as the Pentagram of Protection, but it does exactly the same thing. You can't be hurt - by anything. This one's a nasty little booger for sure. Go for the rocket launcher since it deals the most damage. You can't be hurt by it, remember.
