DM - Towers of Death 1.00 MB This is an interesting space-style map that really gives you a feeling of being high. The lower areas are pretty closed in, but as you get higher up, the map opens up. From the top level, you can see just about everything -- and there's a railgun! This would make a great 1v1 map.

DM - The Heebee Geebees 1.50 MB The unusually large size of this gothic-style map makes it good for larger numbers of players, but its openness means it's great for a good 1v1, too. Its symmetrical design makes it easy to find your way around. All the weapons are on here, and there are plenty of items to keep the game moving.

DM - The Nubia Mission 2.90 MB This map is misleading -- at first, it seems really large. As you play on it more, however, you start to realize that it all flows together very nicely, and it's actually a good map for a smaller number of players, or even a 1v1 match if you don't mind doing some searching. The texturing, style, and atmosphere all very well-done.

DM - The Cursed Temple 3.00 MB This Egyptian-styled map is very large, and really only meant for a pretty big group of players. Its styling and atmosphere is really well-done. Weapon and item placement is pretty conservative, and there is a lot of emphasis placed on vertical fighting. The sounds and textures come together really well.

DM - Forgotten Rendezvous 810 KB This is something very unusual for Quake 2... a space map. It's small, and probably better suited for a smaller number of players. The weapons are plentiful and powerful, and you'll find yourself trying to knock people off the edge as much as you try to frag them. The architecture is really well-done.

DM - Wasted 210 KB This is a dark, well-styled map that places a strong emphasis on vertical fighting. It's fairly small and tightly bound together with a few open areas that consist of many walkways and doors. Weapons are conservatively placed to compliment smaller numbers of players.

DM - Templewalk 1.40 MB This is a fun fortress-style map that's very reminiscent of Quake 1. It's full of all kinds of elements from older deathmatch favorites. It sports some interesting water features, and even a small waterfall that you can swim down during play. It's very large and is definitely only appropriate for well-populated servers.

DM - Moebius Trip 450 KB This is an interesting map that's based around a few open areas that are connected by a series of multi-level paths. It's open, but fairly small, so it's great for 1v1 matches or games with smaller numbers of people. Most of the emphasis on items is reflected in weapons, health, and ammo.

DM - Rok da House 310 KB This is a slightly large map that's very similar to The Crucible in its layout. In a bit of an unusual technique, teleporters are frequently used to increase the flow around the map. Weapon placement is pretty good, and there are plenty of items to keep Quakers beefed up for competition.

DM - Fusion98 650 KB This is a really cool base-style map that carries a lot of familiar architecture from the first missions of Quake 2's single player mode. The darker, richly colored lighting is very well-done and gives the map a unique feel. It consists of many open halls and a few larger, more open areas. It's similar in style to a Quake 3 map, although since it was released in 1998 it's clear that this wasn't intentional.

DM - The Crucible 280 KB This is a professional-style map designed for a large number of players. There are a number of weapons strewn around, so smaller groups will have quite a bit of firepower. The map is centered around a few main areas, but mostly consists of tight, interconnected hallways. The flow is quite good.

DM - Demon Dragon 78.0 KB This is a fairly tiny maze-like map that feels quite a bit larger than it really is. It has plenty of powerful weapons, so it's good for a lot of players or just a hunt-and-kill 1v1. It reminded me of Quake 1.
