Listed here are some of the more popular mods available for Quake 2. Most descriptions are taken straight from the websites of the mods themselves.

Action Quake 2
A Quake2 MOD where strategy, accuracy, and just damn cool looking fights dominate. The idea is that each bullet counts for a lot, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't pump them full of as many bullets as you can spare; they'll get a chance to shoot back before they die if you don't finish them off. Cover actually means something, it's better to make sure there's a pillar or a desk near by to duck behind, especially if you have to reload or bandage yourself.

Rail Arena
Rail Arena is a new breed of deathmatch mod for quake2 that focuses on drawing blood. The only hitch is, you can only blood from your opponents by using the railgun. Don't worry, there's plenty of railguns to share around. At all the places on a map where you'd normally find the weapons - there'll be a railgun sitting there. And in place of bullets, shells, rockets and cells ? You guessed it... slugs instead.

Rocket Arena
Rocket Arena 2 is one of the most popular Quake 2 mods of all time. It's innovative "multi-arena" maps allows players to choose from up to 10 arenas on a single level, and have matches going on in all of them simulatnously. The refined "pickup" mode introduces players to the fast-paced teamplay style of Clan Arena. Several camera and spectator modes allow observers to get into the action and learn from other players. The advanced competition, admin, and voting features make setting up clan and ladder matches a breeze.
