DM - Stormland 1.40 MB This is a dark, twisting map suitable for 1v1. The architecture is really nicely done, although there are a few too many brushes, and the engine seems to have some trouble rendering some parts. The item and weapon placement is conservative, so it's a great map for smaller numbers of players.

DM - Glitch 290 KB This map has a pretty interesting texture theme to it. It's small size makes you want to call it a 1v1 map, but in fact, its numerous halls and levels make it suitable for larger groups of players. It doesn't have too many weapons or items, so it makes a great 1v1 level. Small pools of lava add some interest to a match.

DM - Aggressor 250 KB This tech map features a good, flowing design that consists of a few larger areas that are divided into a few levels of space. Ramps and stairs are numerous, so vertical fighting is frequent. Weapon placement is well thought-out, and there aren't too many items laying around. Because of its size, it's more suited for larger groups.

DM - The Divine Enigma 190 KB This smaller, gothic-style area is fairly dark and monotonous. Because of the lack of landmarks and the dark, twisting halls, it's pretty easy to get lost in here - on top of that, there are a few too many teleporters. Nevertheless, it's a good map for a 1v1 match, as the numerous halls make for an interesting hunt-and-kill game.

DM - XL Dust 220 KB This is a fortress-style map that reminds me of The Cistern. It's somewhat large, but smaller numbers of players shouldn't have a problem since the areas are fairly open. The flow is partially interrupted by teleporters that only go one way, but it's centralized nonetheless. Tight halls and lots of weapons means plenty of messy fun.

|
DM - Ranger Base 510 KB This base-style map is a medium size, but it doesn't have many weapons so it's well-suited for smaller numbers of players. Wind tunnels are used in place of elevators, and a couple of teleporters are present. The design is interesting, and although the flow isn't very centralized, you shouldn't have much of a problem spotting your enemies.

DM - Vortex 180 KB This is a great 1v1 map with a lot of interesting design elements. The curvy walls and red accents make this a map that plays as well as it looks. There are a couple of dead ends that perhaps should have been equipped with teleporters, but the flow is fairly well-centralized and should provide plenty of action. There are a lot of weapons and ammo, so gameplay is fast and furious.

DM - Bless to Kill 180 KB This Q3-style map has a lot of winding halls, but the flow is extremely well done so it is an excellent choice for 1v1. The map gets crowded fairly easily, but it works well for a smaller number of players. There are plenty of powerful weapons and armor to keep the battles interesting, and the curved architecture is very impressive for Quake 1's engine. A definate must-have, especially for anyone who loves 1v1.

DM - Elm DM 4 200 KB This multi-level arena is open enough to keep battles exciting and eventful, but it has enough walls and levels to compliment a large number of players. It's a great map with plenty of powerful weapons and ammo. It's great for 1v1 or just about any other number of players. Putting the better weapons on the upper levels is a nice touch... it makes them harder to get to.

|
DM - Dead Bodies Everywhere 210 KB This large, Q2-style map compliments a higher number of players, although it can even work for 1v1 if you don't mind a long hunt. There are many halls and levels, and the flow is fairly even. The weapon and item placement is great, and the atmosphere is very unique. A great choice for FFA!

DM - Manson 2 430 KB If you like maps with an unusual twist, this one's for you. It features plenty of lava and a few nasty traps for your deathmatching pleasure. The architecture and atmosphere are very nicely done, and the map flows well because of the abundance of teleporters. There are plenty of places to get killed even when alone, so it the games are always fast and fun. Don't miss out on this one! Great for just about any number of players.

DM - Elm DM 1 200 KB This tight, arena-style map is definately not good for larger numbers of players, but it is pretty interesting for a 1v1 map. There are only two major areas -- an upper room and the short halls below -- so the contact almost never ceases. The abundance of weapons makes for a pretty intense 1v1 game.
